Fast and Cheap Ideas to Help Your Family Decorate Your Home

By Andre Martin

Once upon a time decorating one's home was as simple as picking up the phone and calling a professional decorator. Sure for some people this is still an option. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who see decorating their homes as a luxurious option and not something that they will ever be able to do. Give it some thought: how many of your friends live in houses or apartments that aren't decorated because they think that decorating is too expensive? Thankfully there are plenty of budget friendly ways that you can put a personal touch on your home. This article has some tips for quick decorating at affordable prices.

The thrift store is your friend. Saving money is the name of the game at thrift stores and second hand stores-especially for people with big projects like home decoration. You can find lots of decorations and other items to use in your decorating scheme, you just have to learn to recognize them. With some creativity you can turn just about anything you find while thrift shopping into dcor. Even the strange and funny clothes you often find on the racks can be repurposed. The best deals can be found in neighborhoods where the residents are wealthy. Choose new colors. Neutral tones are best for your walls when you want to repaint because it lets your color scheme be determined by your decorative items. Clashing isn't an issue when you use neutral paint colors for most of the walls in your home because they go with just about everything else you will use to decorate. Leaving most of the walls neutral but painting one of the shorter walls in a different shade is a good idea as well. Doing this creates an "accent" wall in your room which is a very popular decorating technique. Accent walls are cheap and easy to make. If you hate the color, changing it won't be a hassle because you will only have the one wall to re-paint, not the whole room!

Switch out your old rugs for new ones. Room sized rugs can be placed over wall to wall carpet to give your home an updated look. You can find room sized rugs in most larger decorating stores. Smaller rugs used as accent pieces are a great way to touch up hardwood and tiled floors. Using accent rugs to decorate is cost effective and easy. For those who know how to crochet or knit, they can save even more money by making their own rugs to use as decorations.

Be creative! There are plenty of things in your home that can be repurposed to be decorative. You could use your kitchen cookery as decorations if you take them out of the cupboards and hang them up. If you put your cookery on the walls, you won't have to dig through the cabinets to find it!

Expensive art is not automatically better than something that you can make with your own hands. Ask yourself what kind of dcor will make you happiest and then go look for it. Rushing to get your house "all the way" decorated is only good for messing up your budget.
